As much as how interesting and exciting European festivals are, Asian festivals also has their own style of fun and cultures mixed into it which makes these festivals so worth going to. Even though there are many festivals in Asia, today, I will introducing some of the most popular ones. Are you ready to travel with me?

First festival is from India. This festival is also known as the festival of colors or the festival of love. Getting anything? Even though you don’t have any interest in Asia, we all know this one. Holi is one of the most popular festival of Asia that is celebrated the day after the last full moon of the Hindu month (toward the end of February and beginning of March). In this festival, variety of bright colors are sprayed among the crowd in representing the vividness of the spring and bonfire. This festival is so popular that they are celebrated in the United States, allowing Americans get a taste of what it’s like.

Next festival I am about to introduce is from Malaysia. This festival is not as popular as Holi but still is very well known among festival lovers. It’s called Thaipusam. For this festival, many Malaysians start fasting and cleans their soul and body. Almost 900,000 people plus the visitors come to celebrate this event. It is also a festival of endurance because it’s famous for body piercing. Many already know that Asian countries are widely known for its New Year celebration. Songkran is one of those New Year celebration in Thailand. Compared to other New Year festivals, Songkran is famous for its water fight. Everyone in this festival sprays and throws water buckets to each other. This is meaningful in that it cools down the heat on the body but also, it is meant to wash away the bad memories from last year and start anew. The last festival I am about to introduce is also one of the very well-known festivals of Asia, the Chinese Dragon Boat Festivals. In this festivals, more than hundreds of teams to compete to see who is the fastest. This festival is unique in that it’s been going on for more than 2,000 years. During the race it’s a tradition to eat Zong-zi (pyramid shaped rice wrapped in bamboo leaves). This festival is also so popular that dragon boat racing can be seen in some high school sport clubs. There are many other great festivals in Asia other than the ones I have listed above. Most of Asian festivals involve religion that is practiced in that country. But even for people who has no religious affiliation, they are all a great festivals to attend to and just enjoy the spirit festivals bring in people.
